Welcome to the tango wiki, an initiative that tries to describe all elements of "tango" and how it is experienced by its protagonists, into one database.

A lot here is on the "meta level", about tango, and it connects people, what they do, projects, or aspects of the experience of tango. A lot of content is linked to from here -- which is the most important part. The wiki started with context of tango, and should help to find primary sources of knowledge. But, as with any wiki project: it is what we make of it. Feel free to create an account and add more content, improve existing content: any contribution is valuable!

Getting started

It's really in the early days, and you should start interacting with it via:

Places to start browsing

  • list of recent changes
  • list of categories (to assign content to, also used for similar pages, like pages about people)
  • list of properties (these are our semantic database properties that can be assigned to content)
  • list of forms (used to create content for some categories in a structured format)
  • list of concepts (dynamic lists created by assigning pages to a category)

Consult the User's Guide for information on using the wiki software.

What are good topics to add?

  • Anything where reaching a good level of coverage is doable. This means, don't start to build a perfect database of every video on youtube, or a list of every tango recording ever made.
  • Start small, and build from there.

Currently, the wiki runs on https://wiki.tangoresearch.net – and will subsequently be reachable also under https://wiki.awakentango.com

Why a wiki for tango?

  • During the “map” project we realized that there is so much that is part of the tango world, which is never captured or linked together.
  • A lot of existing resources are unknown, and should be linked to from here. It is time to bring all knowledge together to help others not start from scratch.
Why not use existing wikis?
  • WikipediaWill only allow for encyclopedic knowledge
  • tango.info is mostly a database for tango music information
  • tangowiki.org seems to be a dead (or not yet alive) project. If it takes off, we might want to merge into it, share some knowledge/data, or maybe not. In any case: it is also based on Semantic Mediawiki, and a merger could be simple.

Where can I learn more about the base ideas built into the wiki?
