Background

Mitra Martin is a user experience researcher, tango teacher, and community developer. Her extensive background in tango includes not only teaching and organizing events but also contributing to the research and understanding of tango as a cultural and social phenomenon.

Awaken Tango

Mitra is a key figure behind Awaken Tango, an initiative aimed at fostering research, cross-community collaboration, and dialogue within the tango community. Awaken Tango's projects include the World Tango Covid Research Project and the Inner Experience of Tango project.

Inner Experience of Tango Project

Along with Avik Basu, Mitra co-initiated the Inner Experience of Tango project. This research study aims to explore the inner experiences of tango dancers, including mental talk, imagery, sensations, and other types of interior awareness. The project seeks to provide insights that can benefit tango newcomers, dancers, organizers, and teachers by fostering empathy, connection, and improved teaching techniques.
